Designed as the backbone of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona's operations, this building consists of computer rooms, workspaces, conference rooms, and production areas. Initially seen as a utilitarian building, BCBS AZ and Orcutt | Winslow sought early on in design to provide a work place environment that would engender staff pride and morale while promoting safety and productivity. The interior space is crowned by an impressive lobby that includes comfortable visitor seating, artwork, colors, and finishes that are welcoming and promote a feeling of calmness. Also designed into the space was a wellness center for a campus of approximately 1,600 staff. This state-of-the-art center consists of an exercise machine area, spaces for spinning, aerobics and pilates, and locker rooms for changing.
Because BCBS AZ felt that this space was equally important to all their other workspaces, art and plants were introduced throughout the space. This care in design has resulted in staff having a sense of pride and appreciation for their work-space and treating it with respect.
