Chaparral High School
Scottsdale, AZ
This project consists of a three year phased redevelopment including construction of new and remodeled buildings to meet the projected needs of the campus for the next 40 years. Redevelopment will occur while the school is in session. Various buildings have been identified to be replaced and others, such as the auditorium, two performing arts buildings, and library were identified for remodeling. These buildings are targeted to remain and be remodeled due to the relatively good condition and /or amenities they have.
Goals of redevelopment of the buildings were to address deficiencies in many areas which affect morale and performance of student and staff life. Existing buildings are non-descript and finding ones way to the gymnasium or front office is only accomplished through excellent directions. Daylighting was virtually non-existent on this campus and the goal was to boost performance of all users by providing daylighting to as many spaces as possible. The material pallet of metal panels, concrete, painted steel and jumbo brick, was selected to tie into the existing buildings, yet use them in new ways to eliminate the mansard 1970's dated feel.
