Pendergast Elementary School
Buckeye, AZ
Pendergast Elementary School is a replacement school currently in the construction administration phases. The new 78,000 SF K-8 school has 750 students. The project is being designed as LEED certified. Orcutt | Winslow had extensive programming meetings with the community and staff of the school district before developing the conceptual design. The main concept of the project is to design a school building as a learning and teaching tool. The buildings and the central courtyards are learning environments where students can interact hands-on with various aspects of the building systems (cool tower, sun dial, electricity used, air flow, etc.). This green school will have state-of-the-art energy management systems and it is projected that utility and maintenance/operational cost savings will be between 25-30% more than a traditional school.
