Santan Elementary

With the goal of moving the district into the next century, the Chandler Unified School District commissioned Orcutt | Winslow to design a two-phase masterplan that would accommodate Jr. High (7th/8th grade) students, as well as a future K-6 elementary school on a common 28-acre site. The combined student population will be 1,600 students, housed in a total of 174,677 SF.
The challenge of the project was to determine which elements of the campus could be shared to best utilize the SFB funding. By sharing food service/preparation areas, utilizing common media center, administration and limited playfield areas, the district (within the SFB budget) was able to construct a junior high gymnasium that seats 1,000, along with band and orchestra rooms. The phase two elementary school includes a performing arts multi-purpose building, with band and orchestra rooms.
