Bright Angel Lodge at Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
The BAL at GCNP is not only a national treasure but a shining example of rustic architecture envisioned by Architect Mary Jane Coulter of the Fred Harvey Company 75 years ago. However after decades of abuse, harsh weather and millions of visitors a year the BAL is showing its age. Orcutt/Winslow along with DL Horton with great honor and privilege, have teamed up to bring this National Treasure back to life. The plan is to reintroduce the original traffic flow in the building to let visitors wander and discover the many unique spaces and discover some new spaces too. The Kitchens will be completely dismantled and rebuilt. ADA restrooms will be added as well as ramps to make the historic dining room accessible. The historic lounge will be brought back with a coffee bar added along with the original entrances unsealed and opened up for use once again. The famous soda fountain will shine once again with all the touches that a 1935 soda fountain would have. Not only will the building be brought back to its original glory but it will also be LEED certified making it once again a shining example of rustic architecture with an environmental commitment for many more years to come.
