John F. Long Algodon Master Plan
The project’s first step, a 160-acre medical office and research campus just north of Banner Estrella Medical Center, would help form a medical hub along Loop 101, a transportation corridor fast emerging as the West Valley’s sports, entertainment and job center. Construction will begin in January. Scheduled to be built in phases over the next six years, the campus is expected to create 2,500 jobs, the bulk of them medical related, according to research conducted by Long’s company. The average medical job would pay $76,000 a year.
The Algodón Medical Office Park calls for 4.2 million square feet of office space for doctors, chiropractic and dental schools, rehabilitation clinics and medical research facilities, among other medical uses. It will also include traditional and extended-stay hotels, shops and restaurants. The $367 million project also will fill a demand for additional medical offices in the rapidly growing West Valley and allow local hospitals to better recruit physicians, nurses and other medical professionals, Banner Estrella officials said. The hospital already has 132,000 square feet of medical offices, nearly all of which are leased.
