Iconic Gateway to the I-Drive Entertainment and Convention District

"The Drone" - A Pedestrian Overpass
ORANGE COUNTY, FL

HHCP&AVCON (a Joint Venture), is working on the new Pedestrian Overpass design across Sand Lake Road and International Drive in Orange County, Florida. This project aims to improve pedestrian safety and creates an aesthetic gateway to one of Orange County's most heavily traveled tourism corridors.

"The Drone" earned its name in the preferred final design as it resembles the form of a typical drone. The Drone removes the existing on-grade crosswalks and enhances vehicular capacity, all while creating a memorable experience for everyone crossing or driving under the bridge.

Elevated Living That Honors Our Veterans

Post Falls Veterans' Home
POST FALLS, ID

The Idaho Post Falls Veterans' Home design exemplifies an extraordinary focus on creating a premier facility that honors our veterans. Situated on a compact site, the building's layout ingeniously maximizes breathtaking mountain views while maintaining harmony with neighboring residential properties and ensuring seamless site circulation.

At the core of this 64-bed skilled nursing facility lies a centralized community center, offering an array of amenities to promote engagement and social interaction. Within its walls, you'll find a chapel, therapy room, dining room, sports club with large-screen televisions, and multiple common areas; all designed to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the veterans. A welcoming bistro complements both intimate gatherings and larger group settings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Balancing Growth and Patient Experience with Minimal Disruption

TriStar Horizon Medical Center ICU
DICKSON, TN

The expansion of Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tennessee presented a unique challenge due to its aging ICU unit, that has been consistently over capacity for several decades and a campus with limited available space. The key was to achieve a careful balance between optimizing growth opportunities and minimizing disruptions to ongoing hospital operations.

By shaping the 14-bed ICU addition to form a new interior courtyard, the amount of demolition was minimized. This strategic design choice helped minimize the need for extensive demolition while ensuring that occupants would have continued access to natural light. The design of the facade drew inspiration from the original facility, incorporating elements such as oversized cornices and prominent vertical elements, emphasizing the existing mid-century design.

Leveraging the Natural Environment by Creating Meaningful and Useful Connections to the Outdoors

TSG Center for Spiritual Development
SCOTTSDALE, AZ

The new TSG Foundation, Center for Spiritual Development merges science and spirituality in the natural world in ways that serve the site and the soul.

A meandering desert driveway welcomes visitors and provides selective glimpses of the TSG Foundation building. Parking areas are organic in shape and well landscaped to screen them from street view, with a stabilized decomposed granite surface to minimize the heat island effect. A pedestrian bridge links the parking areas to the building by crossing a shallow desert wash and giving visitors a time for pause and reflection as they approach or leave the building. Within the building and the grounds, there are multiple areas to pause and meditate. There are what TSG refers to as “moments of joy”, which are surprises hidden in the architecture, such as hidden zodiac symbology and the TSG 7 principles.
