Ryan House
First of its Kind Respite Care
Based on London’s Helen House, and the first of its kind in the United States, Ryan House provides temporary care in a homelike setting where children with life-limiting conditions will come for respite, palliative care, and as needed end-of-life care. Designed and operated as a home, a stone and gabled entry façade with a carefully scaled porte cochere welcomes visitors to a homelike front door that leads to a great room with a library, reading corners and a captivating light wall. Inside, a “Camp Ryan” theme extends through each of the eight children’s rooms and three family suites that serve as gateways to adaptive music, art, computer, sensory, hydrotherapy and family fun rooms, along with a fully accessible playground and relaxing outdoor garden. Each bedroom features unique murals; the insect room’s painting features a fly and magnifying glass with stars abound in the night sky room. A family style kitchen and dining is designed to reflect a home setting where parents and caregiver alike can dine all together in a pleasant and soothing setting. A Reflection Room and Memorial Garden offer a comforting place for families, friends and caregivers to spend time alone, or with others, to reflect, share or meditate. Additionally, a Hydrotherapy Room provides relaxation and pain relief, while a Bathing Room provides the necessary lift and bathing bed, and shower to ensure good hygiene with safety in a private and dignified setting.
