Focus on Future Efficiency and Flexibility

Dignity Health St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena Campus Tower Addition

Henderson, NV

St Rose Dominican Hospital’s Siena Campus consistently operated over licensed bed capacity and had been in queue for an inpatient tower for almost ten years. The hospital, located near one of the largest retirement communities in the region and is the premier tertiary facility for southern Nevada and Clark County, consistently operated at 92% inpatient capacity (excluding observation).

The hospital reached a critical capacity level requiring additional Emergency Department treatment spaces and beds in order to meet community needs for the present and for future growth. The high occupancy rate impeded efficient operational throughput of all service lines within the facility and limited growth. The new tower focused on expanding Cardiology and CV capabilities, complimenting SRDH’s existing hybrid OR and EP Lab services. The additional Cath Lab along with the tower gave SRDH four
invasive cath labs, a 16-bay observation unit and expanded non-invasive cardiology adjacent to the Emergency Department for rapid diagnostics; all designed to support Cardiac and CV service line expansion. The tower addition also accommodated service line growth for Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurology (stroke) and Neurosurgery. In addition, the collaborative team agreed to early completion of the expanded NICU and early occupancy of the ED, two departments directly and critically impacted by capacity constraints.

Focusing on staff efficiency, the footprint of the new tower was designed in a triangular shape to reduce walking distances for staff, maximize staff access and adjacencies to patients, and provide visual cues for orientation and location of critical functions. The triangular shape also provides a “core” area that serves as staff support space and was designed to be flexible in order to easily adapt to future change.
