Honoring Heroes in Paradise
Hawaii State Veterans’ Home
Orcutt | Winslow, in partnership with MGA Hawaii, is developing our latest, enhanced version of the State Veteran Home concept for the Hawaii Office of Veteran Services. The 120-bed skilled nursing facility will be located in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The proposed site is a rectangular, 6-acre parcel located about 3 miles west of Pearl Harbor with sweeping views of the mountains to the north and the pacific ocean to the south.
Due to the small size of the project site, the design calls for a 2-story solution with four 15-bed small house wings on each floor. The community center was also stacked to create a two-story design that maximizes efficiency for staff while reducing travel distances to each part of the facility. The architectural style is hearkening to the historic Hawaiian sugar mills with a residential softness to this historic vernacular.
The Hawaii State Veterans Home will be approximately 125,000 SF, 120 all private resident rooms in eight households which each include dining, household servery, garden lanais, living room, quiet room, and caregiver work area as well as ample daylight from extensive use of glazing and clear-story windows. The community center features over 20 staff offices, a full service commercial kitchen, laundry, pharmacy, support spaces, four canteens, large balconies to enjoy views and four staff break areas.
